Does this to do list sound familiar? If you are anything like me, adding "don't loose your s#*t" could easily be added to that list. The holiday hustle and bustle is fun, but has the potential to be insanely overwhelming. While the idea of a candlelit bubble bath may sound wonderful, the reality is it requires time you likely don't have right now. I've compiled a list of my favorite ways to serve myself with self care without placing a massive demand on my time.
1.) Drink your freaking water.
Yep. I'm serious. Something as simple as making sure you've gotten in enough water can make all the difference in how you feel both mentally and physically. To determine what your daily water intake should be, take your body weight and divide it by half. This number is how many ounces of water you should drink each day! I find it's easier for me to get my water count in when I have a dedicated water bottle I love.
2.) Wear your favorite face mask while you wrap your gifts.
There is nothing in the world that makes me feel more refreshed like having a good skincare routine in place does. Wearing a face mask tailored to your skin's needs is something that can easily be done while checking off your holiday to do list. You'll be left with both glowing skin and a presents wrapped with care.
3.) Guided meditation.
Meditation is helpful in so many aspects of day to day life. For me, I've found it exceptionally helpful when it comes to sleep. Using a guided meditation app at night in bed vs. scrolling through my instagram feed allows me a deeper sleep and cost me zero extra time. I wake up each morning refreshed and feeling ready to take on the world vs a foggy brain from minimal sleep and too much blue light.
4.) Shower bombs.
Don't get me wrong, there is nothing I love more than chillin' in my tub for hours on end with a bath bomb. The reality? It's not going to happen for me during the holiday season. My happy medium is a shower bomb. A shower bomb is basically a bath bomb cut in half, but they do make products specifically designed for this. (Google shower bombs and you'll find them.) To use this method, place the bath bomb in a dry spot in your shower, splash it with a bit of water, and enjoy the essential oil goodness that is headed your way.
5.) Deep conditioning treatments.
Conditioning treatments are a guilty pleasure of mine, I actually do one weekly. The logic behind this tip is the same as the face mask, you can multitask while pampering yourself. Conditioning treatments are extra important this time of year due to cold, dry hair and harsh winds.
Bonus: All month long, we have peppermint treatments for $10 upgrade in the salon. The treatment includes a scalp massage that tingles to help with product buildup and dry scalp, a hydrating mask, and peppermint infused hot towel. The best part? It only takes ten minutes.
6.) Ask for help.
How many of you took a giant *gulp* reading that one? While admitting you aren't super women and can't do it all can seem scary, I promise you it is the very best way to serve yourself mentally. In the past year, I have become the queen of outsourcing. During this holiday season you can bet I'm in full on outsourcing swing. Things like grocery delivery, asking our sitter to fold the laundry, letting my mom take my kiddo for an extra day, and amazon prime have actually changed my life for the better. I can proudly say ( with zero mom guilt ) that I need help keeping my tribe on track. Admitting this truth and asking for help in any way, shape, or form could be a game changer for you too!
The real truth? The holiday season should be about so much more than gifts and keeping up with the Jones'. Do yourself a favor and choose any one of these tips to serve yourself this holiday season. I think in turn you'll find yourself refueled, refreshed, and refocused on what truly matters.
